Federal Way man charged with attempted child rape

Phillip Wilber, a Bremerton man posing as a Federal Way citizen, was charged on Nov. 30 with attempted child rape after a lengthy sting operation conducted by the Seattle Police Department.

Wilber is currently being held on $350,000 bail, and his arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday at the King County Courthouse.

King County charging documents revealed Wilber told undercover detective Daljit Gill he wanted to “pick up little girls from schools and rape them.” Wilber, 33, was arrested during a meeting with Gill. Gill said Wilber came carrying sexual lubricant and condoms.

The detective began the operation Nov. 14 and was contacted by Wilber the following day. After exchanging cell phone numbers and email addresses, Gill probed further and discovered Wilber had a Facebook account, which had detailed photos of Wilber with a 3 and 5-year-old boy.

Gill arranged a meeting with Wilber at a public restaurant Nov. 22. Wilber’s listed address is in Bremerton, though he told Gill he lived in Federal Way. During the meeting, Gill asked Wilber why he was seeking young children.

The suspect went on to detail how he “had sex with girls in their early teens when he lived in Europe” and has “looked for younger and younger” since.

When Gill was setting up the fictitious meeting between Wilber and his minor, Gill said Wilber asked if he could “do missionary, doggy style and say ‘I love you.’ ”

After a detailed discussion of the sexual abuse that would occur, Wilber agreed to meet the detective at a Seattle hotel on the morning of Nov. 29. He was arrested shortly after arriving at the hotel.
