The Thomas Jefferson boys tennis team ended up in second place at the West Central District Tournament, which concluded Saturday at the Capitol City Tennis Center in Olympia.
Olympia outlasted Jefferson by scoring 27 team points, highlighted by both the singles and doubles championships.
But the Raiders, who have won 55-straight South Puget Sound League matches, will be sending four players to the Class 4A State Boys Tennis Championships. The state championships will be held in the spring.
Alex Chan and Cameron Martin earned automatic berths and the doubles team of Zach Martin and Vivek Ramanujan finished up in fifth place.
Both Chan and Cameron Martin advanced into the semifinals of the singles’ draw before losing. The two then played each other in the third/fourth match with Chan winning, 7-5, 6-2.
On the doubles’ side, the team of Martin and Ramanujan beat a Tahoma team in the fifth/sixth match in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. The TJ team lost in the quarterfinals on Friday, before winning three matches in a row to qualify for the state tournament.
The Todd Beamer team of Max Dalrymple and Ben Arata finished a hard-luck eighth during the West Central District Tournament. The Titan pair will be alternates to state. Dalrymple and Arata lost in the seventh/eighth match to a Gig Harbor team, 6-3, 6-0.
