Local basketball players earn NPSL All-League honors

Federal Way’s Vaughn Weems named MVP; Todd Beamer’s Jackson twins receive first-team honors

Heavily recruited Federal Way Eagles senior Vaughn Weems took home the 4A North Puget Sound League (NPSL) MVP on the basketball court this season.

Isisah Afework was also named the 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year for the Eagles.

Todd Beamer Head Coach Brent Brilhante was awarded 3A Co-Coach of the Year, taking the Titans within one game of the state tournament.

On the third in state Eagle squad, three players made All-League teams. Seniors Dace Pleasant and Isaiah Afework landed on the First Team, and Colton West was given Second Team honors.

Todd Beamer’s sharp-shooting Caleb Berry was also named to the First Team at the 3A level. Mumu Basmeh and Will Tellis represented the Titans on the Second Team. Jahlil Loyd took a place on the 3A NPSL Third Team.

Decatur’s Jewel Young was noticed for her excellent season on the court, being named to the First Team along with teammate and fellow senior Mandi Pham. Young was also named to the All-Defensive team for 4A.

On the 3A side, Todd Beamer had five different players named to the three teams. The Jackson twins, Dreanna and Kayanna, were the lone First Teamers. Aaliyah Chappell was the only Second Team member from Todd Beamer. Senior Candace Nyhe and sophomore Jane Wanjilcu were on the 3A All-Defense team.

Thomas Jefferson had one boy and one girl representing the red and gold on the All-League teams. Senior Alexis McVey was named to the All-League Second Team while her brother, Brayden, was named to the Third Team.
