The Federal Way Eagles and their talented class of freshmen improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the South Puget Sound League North Division with a hard-fought 70-69 win over Jefferson Friday night.

Two freshmen, Brittany Barrington and Chantel Dixon, hit key free throws down the stretch to give the Eagles the victory. Barrington had a career-high 32 points for Federal Way. Junior Jacqie Evenson had 19 points for the Eagles.

Barrington is the Eagles’ second-leading scorer at 14.5 points a game, behind another freshman, Talia Walton, who is averaging 16.3 points.

The Raiders (4-3, 1-3) were led with 14 points each by Sofia Malamura and Jillian Rasmussen. Hannah Kiyohara had 10 points and Unique Taufa’asau chipped in nine points.

The two teams were tied at halftime and Jefferson held a 45-42 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Decatur fell to 0-5 on the season with a 47-35 loss to Tahoma Friday night. Sarah Quantz led the Gators with 17 points.

Beamer fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the SPSL South with a 54-35 loss to Bethel Friday. Kaylah Scott had 12 points and JoElle Austin had 10 for Beamer.

Wrestling

The Decatur Gators finished up second at the 13-team Graham Morin Memorial Tournament Saturday at Squalicum High School in Bellingham. Snohomish won the tournament with 242 points. The Gators tallied 157.

Decatur picked up individual wins from Darrin Faber at 171 pounds and Tevyn Tillman won the 275-pound title.

Faber pinned Squalicum’s Nick Frazier in the 171-pound championship match. Tillman pinned Trenton Shelby from Washougal in the heavyweight final.

The Gators also got second-place finishes from Gary Bull at 135 pounds and Spencer Kabelac at 152. Bull was pinned by Snohomish’s Stefan St. Marie in the final and Kabelac lost to Bellingham’s McKray Jones in the final, 8-3.

Beamer finished in third place at the Rogers Holiday Tournament at Rogers High School Saturday. Enumclaw won the title and Rogers finished second.

The Titans got one individual championship from Cody Moriarty at 112 pounds. Moriarty beat a Kent-Meridian wrestler in the final, 7-5. Beamer also got second-place finishes from Vince Harteau at 125 pounds, Cory Obungen at 130 and Tyler Enos at 135.
