Federal Way High School alum and current Central Washington stand-out Brandham Ponce was named GNAC Player of the Year on May 6.
The former Eagle dominated competition for the Wildcats this past season, as not only was he Player of the Year, but he was a unanimous All-Conference selection.
Ponce led the entire GNAC in slugging percentage (.739), RBIs (62) homers (18), OPS (1.179), and total bases (136). He had seven more home runs than the next closest batter, Nin Burns II (11) from Northwest Nazarene. A Federal Way teammate of Ponce, Kaden Kirshenbaum, was third this season in home runs with eight. Kirshenbaum was also right behind Ponce in RBIs, and was in second with 49. Ponce dominated the RBI category with 13 more than second place.
He was top 10 in 10 statistical categories this season. Ponce had the fifth highest batting average (.364), fourth in runs scored (45), third in hits (66), tied for sixth in doubles (13) and was ninth in walks this season (20).
In his first series for the Wildcats, Ponce hit five home runs against Stanislaus State, and had three of those home runs in one game on Feb. 2. He also hit a walk-off home run against Saint Martin’s on April 5.
Ponce not only hit he also pitched for Central. The 6’3” righty threw 45 innings for the Wildcats this past season on the mound.
