Federal Way, Todd Beamer baseball teams advance to state

Federal Way and Todd Beamer high school’s boys baseball teams have qualified for the state tournament.

Todd Beamer (12-2 in conference, 18-5 overall) defeated Federal Way 12-3 last Saturday to secure a third-place finish in the 4A West Central District 3/Southwest District 4 tournament. Federal Way (13-1 in conference, 15-8 overall) got fourth place with the loss.

Todd Beamer beat Skyview 5-4 in the first round of the tournament on May 8 but lost 5-3 to Tahoma last Saturday. Federal Way defeated South Kitsap 5-4 on May 8 but fell to Puyallup with a 9-1 loss on Saturday.

Todd Beamer faces Issaquah in the first round of the state tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Heritage Park in Puyallup. Federal Way takes on Mount Vernon 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.

The loser of each game will be eliminated from the tournament, while the winners will play again later on Saturday. The finals for the state tournament will take place May 25-26 at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.
