Decatur junior leads girls golf team to fourth place finish at league tournament; Xu to return to WCD tournament in spring 2020.

Decatur High School junior Claire Xu, golf, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 25.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: AP United States history.

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy?

A: Golf, playing the flute.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My parents.

Q: The best advice I’ve ever been given by a coach is:

A: “The most important shot is the next one.”

Q: Describe your pre-game ritual and your favorite post-game meal.

From the sideline: Last week, Decatur junior Claire Xu led the Decatur girls golf team to a fourth place finish at the North Puget Sound postseason girls golf tournament. In the two-day event, she finished one over par in third place just three strokes behind the leader. During the regular season, Claire was the point leader for the North Puget Sound Olympic Division averaging 26 points per match. Claire has qualified for the West Central District tournament in the spring and is looking forward to improving on her fourth place finish from last spring at the WIAA 4A State Golf Tournament. Claire is an exemplary student-athlete sho has performed to that same high standard in the classroom. She has earned a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in a rigorous college prep course load. Claire has taken advanced placement courses in English, math and social studies.
