Federal Way High School senior Aaron Broussard has inked a letter of intent to play basketball next year at Seattle University.
Broussard is a 6-foot-4 wing who averaged 14 points and led the Eagles with 11.3 rebounds a game. He also shot 58 percent from the field. Broussard scored in double digits in all but five games and had 20 or more points in six games.
“(Aaron) is a physical and focused student-athlete,” said Seattle University head coach Joe Callero. “We want to keep the best Seattle area players at home. He has the mental and physical make-up to face the future competition.”
Broussard was named second-team, All-South Puget Sound League North Division a season ago and was honorable mention during his sophomore season. He was also a first-team, All-SPSL North wide receiver this season for the Federal Way football team after catching 23 passes for 638 yards and four touchdowns.
Broussard was one of two players to sign with Seattle University during the early signing period last week. He will be joined by Pasco High School’s Gavin Gilmore in the fall.
The duo will join Seattle University as it begins the transition to the Division I level next season. The Redhawks will play a mixed schedule next year with D-I schools and other competition before playing a full D-I schedule in 2008-09. Seattle will be eligible for Division I championships in 2012-13.
Anderson signs with Western
Western Washington University men’s basketball coach Brad Jackson announced Monday that Morris Anderson, who is currently attending Highline Community College and graduated from Federal Way High School, has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Vikings.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Anderson was a first-team Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Western Division all-star as a sophomore at Highline last season.
He averaged 14 points in helping the Thunderbirds to a 21-9 record, the region co-championship and the quarterfinals at the NWAACC tournament, where they lost to eventual champion Clackamas CC in double overtime, 85-84. Anderson earned second-team, all-tournament recognition.
As a freshman at Highline, Anderson played on a 23-7 squad that won the NWAACC championship.
As a senior at Federal Way, Anderson was the Mirror’s All-City player of the year. He averaged 15.0 points and shot 52 percent from 3-point range.
