In a game that featured only five total hits, the Federal Way Eagles picked up a hard-fought 1-0, extra-inning win over the Todd Beamer Titans Monday afternoon.
Darrien Moran finished with two of the three hits for Federal Way, including a double and the Eagles tallied the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Eagles’ Austin Weber and Nick Tanielu combined to shut out Beamer on the mound Monday. Weber threw the first eight innings and allowed only two hits to the Titans. Tanielu threw the ninth and picked up the victory.
Beamer had three pitchers combine to hold down Federal Way’s powerful offense. Brett Oyer started the game and threw until he was relieved in the seventh inning by Matt Bower. Richie Apigo entered in the ninth inning and took the loss for the Titans.
The win improved the Eagles to 3-0 in the South Puget Sound League South Division and 4-1 overall. Beamer dropped to 2-2 in the South and 4-3 overall.
at Decatur 5, Lakes 1
The Gators picked up another impressive home shutout win Monday afternoon in SPSL 3A action. This time, Decatur’s win came over the Lakes Lancers. The win over Lakes moves the Gators to 2-0 in the SPSL 3A Division and 2-3 overall.
Decatur got a strong pitching performance from Romiro Ponce. The senior threw a complete-game, three-hitter and allowed only one run in the top of the third inning. Ponce finished with seven strikeouts.
The Gators scored single runs in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Zimmerman finished 2 for 3 with a run, Mitchell Ciotta finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run and Brett Johnson was 1 for 3 with a double.
Decatur opened its SPSL 3A season with a shutout of the Bonney Lake Panthers last week, 2-0.
