Letter sent around Washington | Letter

There exists an incredible opportunity to place a regional hospital and care facility in Federal Way, Washington. I am urging everyone I know to support the fact that this property needs to be developed to a higher, better need than what is currently being proposed: a fish-processing factory, a very large freezer (with anhydrous ammonia storage tanks), and a number of warehouses.

The Weyerhaeuser Corporate Headquarters Building would be an ideal location for a VA medical facility, along with research capacity and adjoining care facilities for many types of patients from the elderly to veterans who need help with their myriad medical issues to a drug treatment center and so forth.

The Seattle VA Medical Center is filled to capacity, the American Lake VA Medical Center is filled to capacity, the Retsil Soldiers Home is filled to capacity and the Orting Soldiers Home is filled to capacity. A Federal Way facility would provide the type of care the active- duty and veteran population needs – and they need it now.

The Pacific Northwest also desperately needs a laser spine surgery center. Harborview Medical Center could use a sister facility to help with their patient load. The site has a helipad for Medical Air Lifts that we see so often for serious trauma victims.

The campus is beautiful and has a number of walking trails that would help people overcome their illnesses while at the facilities. This could be a joint campus with many medical components to effectuate all types of medical care as well as ongoing patient treatment and rehabilitation stations.

Thank you.

Roger Flygare, Federal Way
