The car-versus-pedestrian collision occurred on Oct. 28 in Puyallup.

A 54-year-old woman was killed by a Federal Way man suspected to be driving under the influence on Thursday night, according to police.

At about 11:26 p.m. Oct. 28, Puyallup Police officers were dispatched to a car-versus-pedestrian collision in the 300 block of 39th Avenue South, said Capt. Jason Visnaw of Puyallup Police.

Officers found a woman — a 54 year old resident of Pacific — down in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman has not yet been publicly identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Early investigation found the woman was driving eastbound on 39th Avenue Southwest when we vehicle stopped in the outside lane of travel for an unknown reason, police said. She exited her car and was allegedly struck by a 34-year-old driver from Federal Way who was also driving eastbound.

Police believe the Federal Way man was impaired by alcohol or drugs. He was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail for vehicular homicide.
