Victim shot in drive-by while playing basketball | Police blotter

Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log June 10-21.

June 10

Backpack stolen: At about 2:22 a.m. near the 31600 block of 23rd Avenue South, police were dispatched to a report of a strong arm robbery. The victim stated that he was robbed by three men who stole a small backpack. The victim was uninjured and no arrests were made.

June 11

Threatened with steak knife: At about 4:44 p.m. near the 100 block of S. 340th Street, a victim reported that her soon-to-be ex-boyfriend threatened her with a steak knife and prevented her from leaving her apartment. The incident was related to an ongoing argument about the break-up.

June 12

Suspect punches woman in face: At about 9:31 a.m. near the 28600 block of 25th Place South, the victim called law enforcement after a verbal argument with the suspect turned physical. The suspect grabbed the victim’s shirt and punched her in the face, leaving her with a black eye and other minor injuries. A child was also inside the apartment with the suspect. The suspect voluntarily came out from the apartment and was arrested without incident. The suspect was transported to Kent Jail and the child was released to the victim.

Altercation at graduation: At about 6:16 p.m. near the 1300 block of S. 308th Street, a parent was involved in a verbal altercation with a school district administrator during a graduation ceremony for his son. When asked to exit the stands, the parent refused and the parent was pushed when he came face to face with the administrator.

June 13

Staged home burglarized: At about 1:45 p.m. near the 29800 block of 12th Avenue SW, a person who is an agent showing a home in Federal Way reported a residential burglary. The agent said they had rented furniture to stage the house before the showing and that a suspect made entry through an unsecured first floor window. The suspect exited through the garage. The agent stated several items of furniture and other staging items were stolen from the house. The agent provided police with an itemized list of the stolen items.

Keys, guns missing after home burglary: At about 1:38 p.m. near the 35600 block of 8th Avenue SW, the victim left home overnight and returned to find someone had entered his home and stolen several items, including two firearms. The suspect opened doors and cupboards in almost every room of the two-story home. The victim is also missing keys to a car and a motorcycle.

Man sleeping in yard: At about 9:47 p.m. near the 1000 block of S. 299th Place, a woman returned home and noticed the pads from her lawn chairs were missing. She then found a man sleeping in her yard shed with the pads. The victim called 911, but the man left the area on foot. No forced entry was made to the home and nothing was stolen from the woman’s yard or home.

June 14

Arrested at Applebees: At about 1:59 p.m. near the 1801 block of S. 320th Street, the suspect entered Applebees, ate a meal, then made a request for alcohol. The request was declined due to the suspect appearing high, or having severe mental illness, police said. The suspect immediately pointed his steak knife at the manager and threatened him. The suspect was arrested and sent to St. Francis Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Building windows shot: At about 3:44 p.m. near the 3505 block of S. 320th Street, police were dispatched to a location where a property manager reported the top three windows on the sixth floor building were shot. An officer on scene observed the windows were shattered and upon closer look, appeared to be damaged after being shot with an air soft gun. There is no suspect information and the repairs were estimated to be about $9,000.

June 15

Rock thrown at walking woman: At about 10:20 a.m. near the 900 block of S. 348th Street, a woman was walking when an unknown suspect threw a rock at her, causing her to fall and injure herself. The suspect was not located.

Gun pointed in parking lot: At about 6:45 p.m. near the 34827 block of Pacific Highway South, a driver and their passenger drove into the Days Inn parking lot and attempted to park. A man was blocking access and when asked if he could move, the man became angry, pulled out a long-style gun and pointed it at the driver. The man then drove out of the parking lot. No injuries were reported.

June 17

Woman’s purse stolen from car: At about 3:10 p.m. near the 30400 block of Pacific Highway South, a woman reported she parked her car near the listed location to conduct homeless outreach at a nearby homeless encampment. When she returned, the front passenger side and driver’s side windows were broken, and her purse had been stolen. The woman received an email stating someone attempted a purchase from Target, but it was declined. Case is inactive as there is not enough information to obtain surveillance.

June 18

Person attacked at gas station: At about 6:05 p.m. near the 35505 block of Pacific Highway South, a victim was attacked by a known associate at the gas station. The physical assault caused facial fractures to the victim and the victim was required to get staples for a head injury.

June 19

Assault results in lost teeth: At about 12:55 a.m. near the 1828 block of S. 311th Place, a victim walked out of his apartment to get his mail and noticed as large group of people being noisy. When the victim asked them to quiet down, the group told him to mind his own business. As the victim walked away, three men followed him. When the victim told the men to go back to their apartment, one of the men ran up to him and punched him in the mouth, knocking out two of his teeth. The suspect was taken into custody for second-degree assault and transported to jail.

Break-in at funeral home: At about 11:04 p.m. near the 1535 block of SW Dash Point Road, officers responded to the Bonney Watson Funeral Home for a glass break alarm. A broken window was found on the southwest corner of the building, but entry was not made into the building. No surveillance video was found and no suspects were determined.

June 21

Cars struck by gunfire: At about 5:42 a.m. near the 34010 block of 1st Circle South, officers responded to reports of an illegal discharge in which two vehicles were struck with rounds. The struck vehicles do not seem to be targeted, and there are no suspects yet.

Victim shot playing basketball: At about 9:38 p.m. near the 34515 block of 9th Avenue South, officers responded to St. Francis emergency room for a gunshot victim with one non-life threatening wound. The victim and one witness stated they were shot in a drive-by shooting by an unknown suspect while they were playing basketball. No suspects were located in the area described by the involved parties. The vehicle that drove the victim to the ER was gone prior to officers arrival.
