ST3, SKFR levy poised for passage; statewide FW candidates losing

A host of races affecting Federal Way or featuring Federal Way residents were drawing to a close late Tuesday night, with a fire department levy and a regional transportation package appearing headed toward passage.

Sound Transit 3, a mass transit expansion that will expand bus service and extend light rail from Federal Way to Tacoma, was poised for approval with 55 percent of the vote.

More locally, a levy funding Federal Way’s emergency services provider, South King Fire and Rescue, drew approval from 66.9 percent of voters. The levy, which will supplement South King Fire and Rescue’s budget for the next four years, cleared the 60 percent threshold required for passage.

Federal Way residents running for statewide offices didn’t fare as well. State Sen. Mark Miloscia fell behind in his race against Democrat Pat McCarthy, with the latter garnering 54 percent of the vote to Miloscia’s 46 percent. Running for the state Supreme Court in Position 6, Federal Way Municipal Court Judge Dave Larson was losing 41.65 percent to 58.35 percent against incumbent Justice Charles “Charlie” Wiggins.

Votes will be counted through the end of the day Friday, when the vast majority should be accounted for. Results must be officially certified by Nov. 29.
