There are six Federal Way schools closed today from impacts of yesterday’s storm and one dealt with a boiler incident this morning.

Todd Beamer High School, Sequoyah Middle School, Rainier View Elementary and Lakeland Elementary, Brigadoon Elementary and Valhalla Elementary shut down from a power outage affecting the schools’ heat and roads.

Early today, Wildwood Elementary’s boiler began making unusual sounds and emitting a smell, according to Debra Stenberg, communications director. As a precaution, students who walked to school or were dropped off, were moved from the main building into the portables. Students who rode the bus to school were kept on the buses and served breakfast there.

The school district waited about an hour for the maintenance staff to come check the boiler after the incident. They have now reported it is safe for the children to enter the building and school is continuing as normal, Stenberg said.
