Police investigating bomb threat at Thomas Jefferson High School

Thomas Jefferson students were dismissed early on Monday.

Thomas Jefferson High School students were dismissed early on Nov. 15 due to a bomb threat, according to police and school officials.

On Monday morning, Federal Way Police placed Thomas Jefferson High School on an internal lockdown after receiving a call from a person who made a bomb threat at the school, said Cmdr. Raymond Bunk of FWPD.

Explosive detecting dogs responded from the Port of Seattle to clear the school and no explosive devices were located, Bunk said. The lockdown was a precautionary measure which allowed officers to investigate.

The King County Sheriff’s Office was also notified of the threat. TJHS is located at 4248 S. 288th Street in Auburn.

Federal Way Public Schools notified parents and guardians that students and staff were safe at all times, said Whitney Chiang, chief of communications and strategy for Federal Way Public Schools.

“Due to an additional alleged threat, the police have directed the building be evacuated while they conduct a comprehensive safety evaluation and assess the validity of the threat,” the announcement stated.

Thomas Jefferson High School was dismissed early, she added.

There is no suspect information available and police are continuing to investigate.
