On May 8, the Highline Community Board of Trustees selected interim president Dr. Jack Bermingham to serve as the next president of Highline Community College.

On May 8, the Highline Community Board of Trustees selected interim president Dr. Jack Bermingham to serve as the next president of Highline Community College.

With the appointment, Bermingham will focus on the future of Highline Community College, its students and the South King County community, according to a news release.

“It is an honor and privilege to have been named the permanent president. We do important work at Highline Community College as we prepare students to live in a multicultural society and to work successfully in a competitive global economy. I will continue this work as I serve the college and community,” Bermingham said in the news release. “I was overwhelmed by the support I received both on and off campus while interim president, and will strive to meet to the changing needs of our region.”

Career and college fair

Highline Community College will host a career and education fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at the college’s main campus at South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South in Des Moines.

The event will feature a career fair with 40 of the area’s top employers and a college fair with more than 40 representatives from in-state and out-of-state four-year colleges and universities. Call (206) 878-3710, ext. 3939.

Recycle electronics

Silver Lake Elementary School and PC Recycle are sponsoring an electronics recycling fundraising event to benefit the school. Bring in your outdated, unused or non-functioning electronics to be recycled in an environmentally friendly way and support the school. Event will be 12:30 to 5 p.m. May 17 at the school, 1310 325th Place SW, Federal Way. Information: www.pcrecycle.net.
