There were four vehicle thefts reported, and three vehicles were recovered on this day.
Fleeing: At 3:06 a.m. in the 30000 block of 1st Ave. S., there was a report that officers were conducting extra patrols when, on arrival, an unlicensed SUV fled from the area at a high rate of speed. Attempts to locate the SUV were unsuccessful.
Car theft extortion: At 6:36 a.m. in the 27000 block of Pacific Hwy. S., officers were dispatched to a car theft. While en route to the victim, the victim said that the suspect was now requesting $1,000 from the victim to have his car returned. The suspect never arrived to make the transaction, and the case was forwarded to criminal investigations.
Phone extortion threat: At 3:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of S. Star Lake Rd., the reporting party stated that they were being called by a stranger who requested the victim pay an unspecified amount or he would kill him. The suspect then began sending the victim pictures of people brutally murdered as well as a video of an unknown subject with a mask holding a rifle, demanding money, or the gang would kill the victim. The victim said he didn’t have any enemies that wanted him dead, and he didn’t recognize the phone number. He said he just wanted police to tell the suspect to stop calling him. Officers attempted to call the suspect, but they could not reach him.
Feb. 27
There were three vehicle thefts reported, and zero vehicles were recovered on this day.
Gas siphoned: At 3:57 p.m. in the 3000 block of SW 313th St., an officer responded to a theft report by phone. The victim reported that $15 worth of gas from his vehicle was stolen after he located a hose and a gas cap on the floor next to his vehicle. No suspect information.
Feb. 28
There were zero vehicle thefts reported, and zero vehicles were recovered on this day.
United Healthcare murder related threats: At 9:17 a.m., in the 33000 block of Weyerhauser Way S., the reporting party stated that he works for Progressive, and he received a call from a disgruntled customer who called in making threats related to the United Healthcare murder. The suspect was denied a claim in 2021 for failing to provide all the necessary information. The suspect attempted to reopen the claim this month, but failed to provide more information, so the claim was denied again. The suspect called in and made the first threat, stating he knew why people killed insurance workers. The next day, the suspect called back, saying he was coming to the location, and he asked what names he should carve into the bullets. Because there was no recording of the call, the officer told the victim that it would be hard to find probable cause. The officer attempted to contact the suspect by phone, but received no answer.
Manager found embezzling funds: At 1:35 p.m. in the 31000 block of Pete von Reichbauer Way S., officers responded to a theft report. Upon investigation, the general manager was found to have been embezzling about $30,000 from the establishment.
March 1
There were six vehicle thefts reported, and three vehicles were recovered on this day.
Phone scam: At about 1:09 p.m. in the 2400 block of SW 307th St., there was a report that a man told police that he had gotten a scam email he believed was real, and he called the phone number on it. The man said he then spoke with the person whom he could only describe as a man with an Indian accent. The victim then sent the man a photo of his identification and attempted to transfer $5,000 on Zelle to the person. After the transaction failed, the person on the phone told him to buy $1,000 in gift cards and tell him their numbers, to which the man complied. The report was taken for information only.
March 2
There was one vehicle theft reported, and one vehicle was recovered on this day.
Suspect throws rock at officer: At 5:49 p.m. on 9th Ave. S. and S. 336th St., the reporting party called about a male walking with his backpack that was just stolen out of his vehicle. During the attempt to detain the suspect, the suspect threw a large rock at an officer before fleeing on foot. The suspect was placed into custody without incident.
March 3
There were four vehicle thefts reported, and two vehicles were recovered on this day.
Stolen firearm found after eluding: At 1:07 a.m. in the 32000 block of 21st Ave. SW, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle, and prior to contact, the driver fled, and a pursuit ensued. A GPS tracker was successfully deployed on the vehicle, and a pit maneuver disabled the vehicle. Both suspects fled on foot, but were apprehended. The driver, an adult, was booked into jail. The passenger, a juvenile, was booked into juvenile detention. A stolen firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
$20,000 worth of power tools: At 6:28 a.m. in the 1400 block of S. 359th St., a man reported that his vehicle was stolen, and he said he had about $20,000 worth of tools inside.
Watermelon thrown in the fryer: At 7:58 p.m. in the 1600 block of S. 347th Pl., the reporting party stated that a masked male walked into Jack In The Box with a watermelon in hand and threw it into the fryer before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The reporting party stated that this person has done things like this in the past, and officers have responded and documented the incidents. Officers will increase patrol around the affected area.
March 4
There were zero vehicle thefts reported, and two vehicles were recovered on this day.
Tax scam: At 8:49 a.m. in the 31200 block of 28th Ave. S., the victim reported that she was in a verbal agreement with the suspect for tax services. The victim was told she owed $9,000 to the IRS. The suspect withdrew the $9,000 from the victim’s bank account and then kept the money before ceasing all communication with the victim.
