Kiwanis Club of Federal Way to host take-out Salmon Bake fundraiser July 24

Tickets for the 64th annual event go on sale Friday, June 12.

Due to careful planning and community support, the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way is hosting a take-out Salmon Bake fundraiser this year.

The 64th annual Salmon Bake at Steel Lake Park will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 24.

“Since there was, and still is, so much uncertainty in an event like this, we decided a couple months ago to plan a take-out event,” said Gordy Goodsell, co-president of the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way. “Many of our long-time sponsors have felt the impact of the stay at home order, but most are still joining us in this effort.”

Cafe Pacific, who has been an event partner for years, will prepare the salmon dinner onsite at Steel Lake Park and the meal will be available for pick-up at the park, hot and ready to eat, Goodsell said.

The meal will include salmon, caesar salad, potato salad, corn on the cob and Jimmy Mac’s famous rolls with honey butter.

The Kiwanis Club also plans to host an online auction in addition to the take-out event, which will be accessed through the club’s website.

All of the proceeds from this year’s event are going to the Multi-Service Center food bank. The MSC food bank serves individuals and families throughout the Federal Way Public Schools district, and has seen an increase of nearly 600 new families seeking assistance during the current COVID-19 crisis.

“The needs this fundraiser supports are greater than ever now,” Goodsell said. “We are also fortunate to have an event that can be modified in a way that can be done safely.”

This year also serves as the 64th consecutive year of the annual event, he said, so “we have to keep that record going!”

Tickets for the event go on sale Friday, June 12 and will be available until noon Monday, July 20.

Orders on the day of will not be accepted. For more information, visit federalwaykiwanis.com.
