The body of a missing rafter, a 34-year-old Federal Way man, was found by volunteer search and rescue units at about 11:30 a.m. May 31. The body was lodged beneath a tree in the Green River near an area known as Beer Bottle Beach.

The man was reported missing about 4 p.m. May 17. He and three others were using two rafts, tied together, to float down the Green River near Flaming Geyser State Park, located near Black Diamond and Auburn, when they flipped over in the water.

Three of the men made it to shore, but the fourth remained missing until Saturday, reports said. The victim’s name was not available as of press time Monday.

Online Broadcast about North Shore

The Point at Northshore is a proposed 860-home development that could replace the golf course.

Kids fishing derby

A kids trout derby fishing event will run 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 7 at Steel Lake Park, 2410 S. 312th St., Federal Way. Fee is $3. Event is open to kids ages 2-12. Pacific Highway construction

• SCI Infrastructure on June 4 will restripe the north end of the phase three HOV lanes project so that Pacific Highway South southbound traffic travels beside the new curb on the west side of the highway. The affected area will be between South 283rd Street and South 288th Street.

• The electrical subcontractor continues to install street lights along the southbound lanes of Pacific Highway South. Cable will be installed and the lights will be turned on after the new sidewalks are poured.

• Curb and gutters were installed June 2 below the wall at the Overlook Condominiums, 29645 18th Ave. S. An additional asphalt pavement lift will be placed beside the new curb sometime between June 5 and June 10, weather permitting. This will allow SCI to shift traffic up against the new curb during a restriping operation on June 11.

• Property restoration work has resumed on the east side of Pacific Highway South between South Dash Point Road and South 288th Street. Patch paving of driveways will occur when the subcontractor returns to the project, sometime between June 5 and June 10, weather permitting.

• The storm water vault south of South 288th Street should be set by June 3. Connecting the system drainage to the vault will continue in the vicinity through June 13.

• SCI will layout and sawcut the median north of South 288th Street beginning June 5. Pavement removal begins June 10.

• Forms for fascia panels at the wall near the Soundview Apartments, 28425 18th Ave. S., are being set in preparation for the first concrete pour, scheduled for June 6. Pours are expected to continue on three-day intervals for the following weeks.

Student recognized

Nicholas Brugato, a graduating senior from Todd Beamer High School, received the Washington State Auto Dealers Association’s “Car of the Future” scholarship. To earn the $1,500 scholarship, Brugato submitted visual artwork of his car along with a two-page essay. He plans to use the scholarship to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Collision Repair from South Seattle Community College.
