Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 22: Sofia Burson

Decatur senior is a four-year letter winner in the volleyball program.

Decatur High School senior Sofia Burson, volleyball, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 22.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: Marine biology is my favorite subject right now.

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy?

A: I enjoy arts and crafts, reading the Bible, worshipping, going to my church youth service on Fridays and playing basketball afterward.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: The person who has helped me succeed the most is Jesus. He has been there for me when no one else able to, especially during this time with Covid-19.

Q: The best advice I’ve ever been given by a coach is:

A: To never give up, always put in effort and that volleyball is more mental than physical.

Q: Describe your pre-match ritual and your favorite post-match meal?

A: My pre-game ritual is listening to Christian rap in the car on full blast. My favorite post-game meal would have to be Chick-fil-A or MOD Pizza.

Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?

A: “Mad Today” and “Holy Spirit” by Hulvey, and “Phenomena” by Hillsong Young & Free.

From the sideline: Decatur senior Sofia Burson is a four-year letter winner in the high school’s volleyball program. She also participates in girls basketball and track and field.

“Sofia is a dynamic volleyball player. She leads her team by example, and always goes 100% in games and practice. Her defense and passing skills have taken her team to a higher competitive level this year. Sofia is an extremely explosive hitter that reads the block and hits with power and intelligence. Sofia has earned a 3.478 Cumulative Grade Point Average. She is working to complete her associate degree and diploma this June as a full-time Running Start student.” — Coach LaManda Mounts
