Federal Way driver kills woman walking on street

Federal Way police are investigating the death of a 66-year-old woman.

According to police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock, officers were dispatched at 5 p.m. June 30 to the 2400 block of South 288th Street. Federal Way resident Betty R. Rehberg was walking westbound on the south side of South 288th Street by Safeway’s private driveway when a 53-year-old man from Federal Way turned right onto the road from the Safeway parking lot. He struck the woman, who at that time, had entered the roadway.

Schrock said Rehberg sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.

Although the full investigation is not complete, Schrock said the preliminary investigation indicates no crime occurred.
