Federal Way community gathers food for seniors during MLK event

The donations will benefit seniors at the Federal Way Senior Center.

The Federal Way mayor, City Council, Diversity Commission and Federal Way Public Schools sponsored a food drive on Saturday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Volunteers and elected leaders gathered food throughout the morning and afternoon at Fred Meyer, Safeway, Walmart and Grocery Outlet locations in Federal Way.

In total, the city received 4,050 pounds of food and collected $354.36 in cash, according to city staff. The donations will benefit seniors at the Federal Way Senior Center.
