Federal Way City Council to hold emergency meeting for zoning moratorium

The Federal Way City Council will host a special council meeting Wednesday night.

Starting at 5 p.m., the council will vote on whether they should adopt a 6-month moratorium on development in Corporate Park-1 and Office Park-1 zones. The former-Weyerhaeuser campus, now owned by Industrial Realty Group, is the only property in the city with Corporate Park-1 zoning.

The action would amend the Planning Commission’s work program.

On Tuesday, Industrial Realty Group vice president of special projects Tom Messmer announced his company and applicant Chill Build Seattle, LLC terminated their contract for the sale of 19 acres. The company had proposed to build a fish warehousing, distribution and processing center to be occupied by Preferred Freezer Services and Orca Bay Seafoods.

If adopted, the moratorium will become effective immediately, with a public hearing to follow at a later date.

The Mirror will update this report as more information becomes available.

The council meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 33325 Eighth Ave. S. in Federal Way.
