Clothing bank is one helper short

Things are even tougher this year for Federal Way students who are in need of clothing.

The Federal Way PTSA clothing bank is closed until further notice because the former director is facing medical problems.

The clothing bank supplies used clothing, new socks and new undergarments for 150 families in the Federal Way School District.

“We have some families, five, six, ten kids come in,” said Sam Rengstorff, Federal Way PTSA president.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to receive clothing regardless of whether they are on free and reduced lunch.

“We do not ask to see any of that; it’s for all students in Federal Way schools,” Rengstorff said.

But with no one to staff the clothing bank, it has remained closed since around Christmas, with the exception of a few days. The clothing bank, located at 30819 14th Ave. S., is usually open on Tuesday afternoons and the first Saturday of each month.

The Federal Way PTSA clothing bank is supported by donations from the PTSAs at each school and the Federal Way United Methodist Church.

Organizers are currently seeking a volunteer who can assume a leadership role and staff the clothing bank.

“We need somebody that’s in charge that can actually be there during the times that it’s open,” Rengstorff said.
