Blue Poppy Day in Federal Way blends art and nature

The celebration was held May 21 at the Rhododendron Botanical Species Garden.

Blue Poppy Day celebrations returned to Federal Way over the weekend.

In partnership with the City of Federal Way, the Rhododendron Botanical Species Garden, the Pacific Bonsai Museum and the Federal Way Arts Commission, the day — held May 21 this year — calls for a celebration of natural beauty and talent blooming in south Puget Sound.

At the Rhododendron Botanical Species Garden in Federal Way, visitors enjoyed the Himalayan Blue Poppy meadow, an art market with 10 local artists, music and dance performances, food trucks, plant sales and more.

Performers included Jet Cities Chorus, Federal Way Youth Symphony, local guitarist and vocalist Dylan Yuste, Federal Way Chorale, Harmony Kings, Grupo Folklorico Citlali and guitarist Leon Christian of the Federal Way School of Music.

The rhodendron garden is located at 2525 S. 336th Street in Federal Way.
