1 man dead after shooting leads to crash in Federal Way

Police do not have suspect information.

One man is dead after a shooting resulted in a single-vehicle collision along a Federal Way road on Friday night.

At about 8:30 p.m. July 30, Federal Way officers responded to a collision near the 35300 block of 21st Avenue SW, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of Federal Way Police.

While arriving to the scene, officers learned the collision may have been the result of a shooting, Schwan said.

Preliminary information revealed an altercation occurred between the occupants of the two involved vehicles, traveling westbound on SW 356th Street.

During the altercation, occupants of one vehicle fired a weapon at the driver of the other vehicle near 21st Avenue SW. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene.

That vehicle crashed on 21st Avenue SW near the 35300 block and the suspect vehicle fled the area, Schwan said.

Schwan said it has not yet been determined if the victim — an unidentified man in his 20s — died as a result of gunshot wounds or the crash.

Police do not have suspect information as of this posting, Schwan said. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fatality. The roadway was closed for several hours.
