Federal Way’s senior residents prove that home is about the people

Living the best life you can is important at any age and being healthy and fit makes everything in life more enjoyable. Regardless of your abilities or age, feeling your best means enjoying life to the fullest.

At GenCare Lifestyle, personal exercise programs are an important part of their whole-life approach to senior living, providing an important component in helping residents feel good about themselves. GenCare believes in offering its residents the best opportunities provided by the best people and their Fitness Program is no exception.

Fit and fabulous at any age

Fitness Director, Arianna Schultz, has always had a passion for fitness, with a focus on dance. Choosing to focus her education in the field, she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Kinesiology, and minored in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Pacific Lutheran University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in the same field.

For Arianna, finding a job that allowed her to use her degree’s focus was a dream come true. She first got to work with seniors as part of an internship and later found herself working with a local gym during COVID. When the job at GenCare Lifestyle came along, it was a perfect fit—combining her passion for working with seniors in a fitness-based environment.

What does Arianna love about her job? She can’t choose! “I love everything!” she says, “It’s the first job where I’ve felt at home from day one—it’s where I was meant to be. I get to see day to day improvement in the seniors I work with through improved balance, flexibility and strength, which translates into improved quality of living overall.”

Group fitness programs at GenCare Lifestyle are tailored to suit the needs of every ability and physical limitation—no matter what your starting point, there’s a class for you, proving you can get stronger and fitter at any point in life. Arianna notes that the Seated Exercise class is the most popular and she loves seeing the residents find community within the community!

Arianna also provides one-on-one personal training at GenCare, so you can have a fitness program tailored to suit your goals.

At home—where you can be yourself

Marketing Director, Karen Satterberg knows the value of the fitness programs at GenCare, saying, “We make such a huge difference in our residents lives, keeping them mentally stimulated, socially connected and physically fit. GenCare Lifestyle is not just a building—it’s about people we love and share our lives with every day, just like living in a family. Everyone here really cares and that gives families and residents peace of mind.” Many of the staff have been here for years, and they all share a passion for serving seniors—a passion that shows in the quality of the community at GenCare.

For Karen, just like all GenCare’s staff, it’s about more than a job. “I have felt that it’s my ministry. It’s my purpose in life to serve people in their later years. I get such joy watching the residents finding happiness, fostering new friendships, and enjoying new experiences that add quality to their lives.”
