Kiwanis Club of Federal Way presents Stop the Bleed on March 7

Community is invited to attend event at Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club.

The community is invited to attend the Kiwanis Club of Federal Way’s dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, 3583 SW 320th St.

The event includes an optional dinner for $15. At 6:30 p.m. guest speaker Austin F. Lewis, a registered nurse, trauma educator and outreach coordinator with the Tacoma Trauma Trust, will present Stop the Bleed, a national awareness campaign to cultivate grassroots efforts that encourages bystanders to help in a bleeding emergency before professionals arrive.

No matter how rapid the arrival of professional emergency responders, bystanders will always be first on the scene. A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes, therefore it is important to quickly stop the blood loss. Those nearest to someone with life threatening injuries are best positioned to provide first care. According to a recent National Academies of Science study, trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans under the age of 46.
