The demise of Federal Way

Should I stay or should I go?

Talk among politicians while running for mayor had been about building Federal Way. Does anyone who lives here want our neighborhood built up more? Do we need more stores or apartment buildings? People tend to leave this neighborhood to shop in the same stores that are bigger in other cities, like Tukwila. We have been able to hire new police officers, but that’s because there’s more crime in the neighborhood that needs to be handled now.

I wanted to do upgrades to my house, but now I’m wondering, should I stay or should I go? What I’m witnessing is trash in the streets, trash in grocery store parking lots, increased security at the Safeway on 320th Street across from that new big apartment complex. I won’t shop there anymore. It looked like someone was making a drug interaction in front of that apartment complex as I drove by. I saw someone walking out of WinCo while holding something in his hand that he was stealing. A couple of store personnel seemed to be waiting for him outside. I’m also hearing more sounds of sirens.

Besides crime, it sounds like my block by Decatur High School is the third runway for SeaTac Airport. The planes fly low, sound loud, and make my house vibrate.

We are all watching the demise of Federal Way. Does anyone care or do we all feel helpless to try and affect a change?
