Power lines act as eyesore
Political columnist Angie Vogt’s latest spattering of conservative nattering begs for a response (“Democrats’ lawsuit over GOP tag threatens military vote,” Sept. 27).
I am sick and tired of criminals being pitied in this state and in this country. The article on Tasers that you printed is a perfect example (“Weapon of mass discussion,” Sept. 24).
I am writing this letter to Federal Way assistant planner Matt Herrera and the City of Federal Way, to oppose the zoning of this particular property to build two family homes (zoning project 08-101619-UP).
Open letter to the Federal Way City Council: I just read in the fall Federal Way City Update newsletter about the city council resolution urging Sound Transit to get light rail at least to Federal Way, if not through it. I totally disagree with this and here’s why.

I am in my mid-50s and recently purchased a bicycle. I had not ridden one in over 25 years, but was anxious to help the environment, save gas and get in better shape. I did a considerable amount of research, both concerning purchasing the bike and riding on the streets.
Has the Federal Way community run out of newsworthy items to talk about? Has news been so slow you need to sink to new levels? First, my fourth-grade son announces he just read about a great new form of exercise that looks fun.
I want to respond to the letter to the editor by Frank Gibbs (“Right-wing drivel about abortion,” Sept. 6). (Note: The letter in question ran online Sept. 5.) Gibbs supports a woman’s right to choose. He says we don’t have the right to tell our neighbor to plant marigolds rather than petunias, so why do we have the right to tell her how many children she should have? Mr. Gibbs, if you think you are funny, forget it.
It's between a woman and her doctor ... and Walter Backstrom.Guest columnist Walter Backstrom ("Abortion: A matter of choice?" Aug. 23) seems a decent fellow,… Continue reading
Guest columnist Chris Carrel’s article “Caught in the crossfire of gun violence” (Aug. 23) does point out a concern that my family has, which is that we no longer have that sense of safety and well being that we once had living in Federal Way. Youth violence is our particular concern.

To owners of large objects I think Terry O’Day is confused (letters, Aug. 13). 1. Normal people don’t own an RV. 2. Apparently when he purchased the RV, he failed to consider all the costs of ownership of an object so large it didn’t fit on his property.
Imagine — What a performing arts and cultural center in Federal Way would mean to me: Pride, community pride. The people’s arts and cultural center.
As the fire chief of South King Fire and Rescue, I want to take a few moments to address all of the citizens we serve about an unfortunate series of events surrounding your fire department.
