No locally-owned businesses to shop at in Federal Way

‘Our downtown has either major chain stores or fast food restaurants.’

Living in Federal Way and having been a small business owner in the city, I agree with Mr. Livingston that residents should support locally-owned business.

I am just not sure where Mr. Livingston would like us to shop. Our downtown has either major chain stores or fast food restaurants. These chains can afford the city’s permit, inspection process and taxes by passing on those costs to the consumer.

Also included in the cost to the consumer is the cost of shoplifting and security. The city’s failure to address these issues actually discourages small business development. I miss the Metropolitan Market and wish the city would do something to encourage the development of its former location.
