Questionable mailings:

Imagine my surprise when my 9-year-old son came home from school recently all excited about a “Fall Fun Party.”

I asked him what he was talking about and he got out his school folder and handed me a postcard inviting him to a gathering at the Chritian Faith Center. A postcard whose distribution was authorized by the Federal Way School District. It advertised a great time — free to first-time visitors.

I had to explain that this was at a church that we do not belong to or believe in. It turns out that none of his friends were going either, because of the same reason.

The Christian Faith Center has its place for some people, not us. But the idea that the school district would allow these to be sent home, having to know that the colorful pictures would entice the children. Inviting them to be a competitor for our chilren’s education.

I may be a lone voice in my disappointment in the school district’s decision, but wanted others to know what it going on. This may be one more reason that we’ve voted for significant change to the makeup of the Federal Way School Board.
