City was right to remove sign

The article “Sign code hits close to homes” (Aug. 16), not everyone in Century Palisades is lamenting the demise of the sign.

It is a 45-year-old faded graffiti magnet held up with rotting posts. During the past 34 years we have twice spearheaded efforts to maintain it — once to repaint it and once to shore it up with an additional post. It had a good life and it was time for it to go.

The city was right in having it removed. If someone wants to retain it for the historical archives, it’s still there laying on the ground. We’re guessing the property owner would not object if someone were to remove it.

Crossing at

The CROSSINGS

There is a concern of the crosswalk buttons near The Crossings in Federal Way.

They need to make it so that people who are in wheelchairs who cannot reach the buttons are able to cross the streets safely.

This is a really big concern of mine, for I am a disabled young man in a wheelchair, so I can cross safely and be independent on outings. It would be a sad day if I were seriously injured while trying to cross an unsafe intersection because you haven’t done or taken any action about correcting the crosswalks. Please take action on this subject and respond back to me.

I wait to hear from you regarding this subject of concern.

Trying to end Alzheimer’s

Once again this year I am walking to support individuals and families living with the disease — as well as those who may be affected in the future.

The difference is I will not have Dorothee with me.

I’m participating in the Alzheimer’s Association South Sound Memory Walk on Aug. 23 to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Today an estimated 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. And with 78 million baby boomers approaching the age of greatest risk for this fatal disease, the need to find a cure is more urgent than ever.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research, and funds I raise will go directly toward supporting their efforts.

I know I can make a difference with your support. Will you consider making a donation? It’s easy to give online (e-mail aug4237@msn.com).

Thank you in advance for your time and generosity. Together, we can help to end Alzheimer’s.
