Federal Way Mirror Letters to the Editor | Aug. 16

Imagine — What a performing arts and cultural center in Federal Way would mean to me: Pride, community pride. The people’s arts and cultural center.

A poetic ode to building an arts center

Imagine — What a performing arts and cultural center in Federal Way would mean to me:

Pride, community pride. The people’s arts and cultural center.

A place for everybody. A place for creative freedom. Where I can see my city’s creativity. A place for fun. A place where purple hair is OK. Where I meet new and old friends. Where I can listen to rock and roll, honky-tonk or blues.

A play, classical or improvisation — student, amateur, professional.

Musicals, political satire, comedy.

Children on the stage for the first time. Adults on stage for the first time.

Symphonies, quartets, choirs, chorales.

Entertainment only limited by the imagination.

A multicultural place. An educational place.

Art shows — fabric arts, quilting, drawing and painting. Oils, pastels, acrylics, crayons. Sculptors and sculpture — glass, steel and bronze.

Visual artists, fine artists, crafters.

Artists and their art, provocative to traditional!

Dancers, singers, musicians! Local students learning about theater arts.

School plays. School musicals. Student art shows. Kazoo bands?!

Art and entertainment — conventional to avant-garde

Classes for beginners to professionals.

A place for risk taking, where failure is applauded for “at least trying.”

Fundraisers, speakers, historical displays.

Polynesian, Native American, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Japanese, Jewish, Korean, African American, Scottish, Irish, Ukrainian, South American, and many more. Singing, dancing, storytelling and ceremonies.

A colorful building that reflects and celebrates our multiculturalism.

A building to be proud of. A “green” building! A building with a heart and soul.

A place for the young, old and everybody in-between!

A destination, in Federal Way!

… and so much more!
