Free tax assistance available in Federal Way

Tax aide: The local AARP Tax-Aide Program is seeking volunteer tax counselors to provide free personal income tax preparation and counseling, with special attention to those ages 60 and older and to low- and middle-income taxpayers. Volunteers will be trained this month. In Washington most tax returns are filed electronically. Tax service takes place Feb. 1 to April 15 at several local sites. Tax help: The Multi-Service Center and United Way of King County are helping families file their 2008 taxes and determining if they are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Volunteer IRS-certified tax preparers will be available 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through April 15 at the M.S.C, 1230 S. 336th St. They will be conducting similar services at 14 other King County locations.
