The possibilities are almost limitless when it comes to covering hard surfaces with stone, said Lorna Chirila, who owns Federal Way’s ctmgranite with her spouse, Mike Chirila.

Ctmgranite’s new show room and design center at 1710 S. 344th St. hint at some of the possibilities. For example, red granite on pillars; a vanity carved from white marble; multi-colored glass tiles on a kitchen back wall; recycled glass counters; bright red quartz counter tops; a drain board carved into the sink’s granite counter; and a large piece of art glass inset on a tiled shower wall.

To stretch the imagination even further, samples of more than 200 stones and thousands of tile samples are displayed throughout the 5,000-square-foot showroom. The colorful array includes granite, marble, limestone, soapstone, travertine, onyx and slate. In addition, the store has samples of more than 50 varieties of quartz.

Ctmgranite’s primary customer is the homeowner, usually high-end residential. However, mid-range homeowner budgets can also be adapted by mixing high-end materials, like colored frosted glass, with economical slate tiles, said Lorna Chirila.

Kitchens and bathrooms account for most of ctmgranite’s business. Atharva Roetter, a certified associate kitchen and bath designer, is available to help customers with planning and designing such projects. She and another interior designer are part of ctmgranite’s team of artisans and technicians who provide start-to-finish services: Design, fabrication and installation.

The Chirila couple started in the ceramic tile business in the mid-1990s in Federal Way. As their residential custom market expanded, they bought property and built their own 15,000-square-foot facility where fabrication, showroom and design center are housed under one roof. The company has 16 employees.

Ctmgranite projects have been published in regional and national publications. More examples of its work can be viewed in a dozen kitchen displays located at Albert Lee Appliance in Southcenter, Tukwila.
