• Rick Burns and John Wolf, former Seattle Pike Place Market high stall produce vendors, opened Northshore Quality Produce Market on the corner of 21st Avenue SW and SW 356th Street.

The two co-own and co-manage the store and employ three people. They designed and constructed the store’s interior 2,500 square feet and hand-built the wood display tables, which show an artful arrangement of colorful fresh produce. Customers will find 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables as well as such specialty food items as nuts, cheeses and vegan cookies, plus staple groceries like milk, eggs and bread.

Striving to bring customers the freshest produce possible, Wolf, who has 28 years of produce retail experience, travels daily in the early morning hours to wholesalers in Seattle where he handpicks the store’s fruits and vegetables, said Burns, a Federal Way resident. The store’s priority is locally grown produce. When that is unavailable, it turns to California grown produce, keeping non-U.S. grown produce to a minimum, said Burns, who has 15 years of produce retail experience. This holiday season, the store will offer special order fruit baskets and freshly cut noble and fir Christmas trees from a nearby tree farm, Burns said.
