2026 Seed Swap: Bring your extra seeds and get ready for spring with the South King Tool Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 24. The South King Tool Library is located at 1700 S. 340th Pl. in Federal Way. A composting basics workshop will take place the second hour of the event, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Federal Way Symphony Presents “Big Band Concert I”: Todd Zimberg and Lonnie Mardis lead the Federal Way Big Band in a concert of swing, jazz, and big band standards from celebrated movies at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. The Peking Acrobats: The Peking Acrobats return to North America for their landmark 35th tour, bringing their breathtaking display of Chinese circus arts back to the PAEC stage at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Direct from the People’s Republic of China, this elite troupe of tumblers, contortionists, jugglers, and gymnasts performs dazzling feats that defy gravity and push the limits of human ability. Free Financial Literacy Course: The upcoming session runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 29 through March 26 at the Federal Way Community Center located at 876 S 333rd St. Free child care is available. The Bob Towne Financial Literacy Program, presented by the City of Federal Way with help from community volunteers and Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, is offering a free nine-week course focused on budgeting, getting out of debt, saving, and building financial confidence. Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None”: Federal Way’s professional theatre company Centerstage Theatre presents another irresistible mystery, opening on Jan. 30 and running through Feb. 22. Ten strangers are summoned to a remote island. None of them know each other, all of them have a dangerous past they need to keep secret, and each of them are now in the carefully laid trap of a murderer. As a storm rages outside, the group becomes completely cut off from the outside world, and the killings begin…one by one, the guests are murdered; the only connecting thread being the lines of a sinister nursery rhyme. Epic Queen: This tribute show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. It will feature an “incredible portrayal of one of the greatest singers/frontmen in rock n’ roll history (Freddie Mercury), the sonic accuracy of the studio recordings, and the energy of a real Queen concert.” Visit fwpaec.org.

Free Mending Fair: A partnership between the City of Federal Way, King County Library System and the Refugee Artisan Initiative presents a free mending fair from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Federal Way Library located at 34200 1st Way S. Participants can bring up to two articles of clothing.

Drive Thru Recycling: The City of Federal Way is offering free recycling for scrap metal, holiday lights, electrical cords, styrofoam and plastic film at their upcoming event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 7 at the South King Tool Library located at 1700 S. 340th Pl. in Federal Way. Document shredding will also be available.

Hot off the Presses (new day!): The Federal Way Mirror invites you to join the paper from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Poverty Bay Café for informal conversation, coffee, beer, wine and appetizers. At this edition, you can meet your new Federal Way City Council members. Attendees can ask the newspaper staff about their work or talk about issues affecting the region, such as homelessness, addiction and development, all while supporting a local business and the work of nonprofit FUSION to serve families in need. Each event features a community speaker on a topic/organization important to the Federal Way community. Poverty Bay Café is located at 1108 S. 322nd Place in Federal Way, north of Celebration Park.

Songs of Black Folk: The Music of Resistance and Hope concert will honor the rich musical traditions of how Black music has shaped and influenced culture worldwide – featuring the one and only india.arie and Zebulon Ellis and include tributes to “Black Love” and Richard Smallwood. State of the City: Mayor Jim Ferrell will present an annual State of the City Address at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Performing Arts and Event Center located at 31510 Pete von Reichbauer Way S. This free event will focus on celebrations of the city’s accomplishments and share visions for the future of Federal Way.

Pitch & Sip Bazaar and Networking Fundraiser: From 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 21 enjoy this high-energy marketplace and pitch-night experience that brings together Black and Brown entrepreneurs, community supporters, and business leaders for a night of creativity, connection, and opportunity from the FW Black Collective. This signature fundraising event, supports the Small Business Resiliency Network (SBRN)—a program dedicated to uplifting entrepreneurs through technical assistance, access to capital, training, and culturally grounded support.
