Wrestling regional tournaments canceled due to inclement weather

WIAA announced state-wide cancellations, will create 32-entry state bracket.

Boys and girls regional wrestling tournaments state-wide have been canceled due to this weekend’s weather forecast, the WIAA announced early Friday morning.

The notice, posted to the WIAA website, reads: “Due to the weather conditions, the WIAA has canceled all boys and girls regional wrestling tournaments in the best interest of safety and equal opportunity for all participants.

To address these cancellations, the WIAA staff and event managers are developing a 32-entry WIAA Mat Classic tournament that will begin on Friday morning, February 15, 2019. The details of that schedule will be released by early Monday, February 11.”

This story will be updated when more details regarding the 32-person bracket become available.
