It wasn't the prettiest win, but the Todd Beamer girls basketball team will take it as they move on to the state semifinals with a 40-35 victory over Skyview.

It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Todd Beamer girls basketball team will take it as they move on to the state semifinals with a 40-35 victory over Skyview.

The Titans’ full court press caused it’s usual problems for Skyview in the first quarter. Beamer built a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game.

Hanna Van Nortwick made a 3-pointer to end the scoring drought for the Storm.

As the quarter ended, Beamer led by a comfortable 16-6 margin.

The second quarter was not nearly as kind to them offensively. Just over a minute into the quarter, Makenna Woodfolk made a free throw. Seconds later she added two more points after a Skyview turnover.

That basket came with 6:43 left on the clock. Beamer did not score for the rest of the half.

Even with the poor shooting in the second quarter, the Titans still lived up to their moniker as a tough team defensively. The Storm only manged six points once again in the second quarter.

The Titans lead was 19-12 at the half.

Beamer immediately pushed the lead back to 12 at the beginning of the third quarter. Midway through the third, they built their largest lead of the game at 14 points.

Skyview kept the game from getting too out of hand with a couple of clutch shots from Riley Friauf, including a long-range buzzer-beating 2-pointer to end the third.

As the fourth quarter rolled along, the Titans’ shooting woes finally started to hurt them.

The Titans missed their first four shots from the floor and their two free throw attempts. Meanwhile, the Storm cut the Beamer lead to three points.

With Skyview looking to make it a one-score game, Woodfolk came up with a huge steal near midcourt and took the ball the rest of the way for Beamer’s first field goal with around three minutes left in the game.

Van Nortwick responded with a 3-pointer, bring the Storm within two points.

The Storm had all of the momentum with just under two minutes remaining trailing 35-33.

Nia Alexander came up clutch when her team needed her most, knocking down a 3-pointer with 1:25 left in the quarter.

With 14.2 seconds left in the game, Van Nortwick cut the lead back to three points.

They were forced to foul Jahpera McEachin on the inbounds play. She knocked down both free throws to give Beamer a 40-35 lead with 12.8 second remaining.

Van Nortwick’s final shot hit the front of the rim and Beamer rebounded. The Titans were able to run out the clock and come away with the win.

Alexander led the Titans with 11 points. Woodfolk finished with 10. Bria Rice led the team with seven rebounds.

Ashlee Comastro led the Storm with 10 points and seven rebounds. Riley Friauf had nine and Van Nortwick finished with eight. Madison Lord led all players with 11 rebounds.

The Titans forced 24 turnovers in the game.

Beamer (25-2) moves on to face Central Valley (26-0) in the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Central Valley defeated previously undefeated Moses Lake 47-39 in the quarterfinals.
