Thomas Jefferson girls tennis ties to West Central District title

Thomas Jefferson girls tennis team continues to shine in post-season, advancing three athletes to state.

The West Central District tennis tournament was held at the Boeing Tennis Club May 16-18.

Thomas Jefferson tied with Sumner for the overall West Central District team title with 17 points.

Mia Rosa and Ally Peterson finished second in doubles with victories over two teams from Bellarmine Prep and Sumner before falling to Union in the final.

Nancy Cabanas finished third in singles with victories over Federal Way’s Jillian Chong and Graham Kapowin before falling to Sumner’s Jade Lancaster 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a three-hour long semifinal.

Cabanas rebounded by defeating Rogers’ Maddie Egan 7-6, 6-3 for third place.

Rosa, Peterson and Cabanas will represent Thomas Jefferson at the state tournament May 24-25 in Richland.

The Decatur boys will also be represented at the state tennis tournament next weekend.

Tae Hyung Kim finished sixth in singles in the fall while Elden Buchan and Jacob Buchan finished seventh in doubles.
