Federal Way Spartans wrestlers place in Las Vegas tournament

The Federal Way Spartans wrestling team finished 24th in the Freakshow tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.

More than 900 teams from throughout the country participated in the tournament on Oct. 22.

The Spartans is a competitive wrestling team for ages 6 to 18.

Jarrod Dixon, a former Decatur wrestler who transferred to Lincoln High School in Tacoma last year and won a 3A state title, led the Spartans by placing second in the elite division, winning six matches and losing one, 4-3. Last year, he won the high school varsity division.

Navarre Dixon finished third. He led against the champion at the beginning of the match with a double-leg takedown and took down every person he wrestled in the tournament.

Kaivone Cooks took fourth place. He led the match for third place by two points with only about 6 seconds left but gave up four points.

Kayla McKinley-Johnson, the 2017 Female USA State Champion, went 1-2 at the tournament.
