Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week: Olivia Chong

Federal Way High School’s Olivia Chong, tennis, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for April 20.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: Biology

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you participate in?

A: Cross Country, Tennis-Team captain, Federal Way Youth Commission, BFF club President, Honor Society President, Scholar Advisory to the Superintendent Dr. Tammy Campbell; also serves as the Vice-President, Asian American club, Leadership, Alter server at St. Theresa’s, Soccer referee, Scholar Rep for the Federal Way School Board

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: Her sister Jillian Chong

Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?

A: Her and her sister Jillian jam out to AJR, and then she drinks chocolate milk, and eat

From the sideline: “Olivia Chong has established herself as one of the strongest singles players in the Olympic Division of the NPSL with a strong 6-1 record,” said Federal Way girls tennis coach Josh Drewry. “She has won fully half of her matches without losing a game and finished all of her victories in straight sets. Players and coaches alike have commented on Olivia’s work ethic on and off the court. Although she is a very talented and experienced player, anyone observing a match will note that she wins many points due to pushing her athleticism to the limits by sheer perseverance. Olivia never gives up on the ball or on herself. Additionally and perhaps most importantly, Olivia has set an example as a leader and exemplar of sportsmanship, supporting her teammates and opponents throughout the season.”
