Decatur senior won NPSL Olympic Division Girls Swim Most Valuable Athlete title.

Decatur High School’s Jewel Springer, girls swim, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 26.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: English and science.

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you participate in?

A: Painting and paddle boarding.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My dad, my teammates and my coaches (Jay, Jon, Doug)

Q: Do you have a pre­game/competition ritual or post­game tradition, and what is it?

A: I don’t like to eat within an hour of racing, I like to talk to the people I’m racing and I stretch behind the block.

Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?

A: “Open Arms” by PRETTYMUCH

From the sideline: Jewel Springer, Decatur High School senior, was recently selected as the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) Olympic Division Girls Swim & Dive Most Valuable Athlete. Last weekend at the NPSL Championship meet, Jewel finished second in the backstroke and set a state qualifying time while finishing first in the individual medley. She is also a member of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams that will be participating at the West Central District Championship meet on Oct. 26-27. Jewel has also excelled in the classroom, evidenced by her 3.792 cumulative grade point average.
