Tennis: Thomas Jefferson remains in first place with 3-2 win over Auburn Riverside

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders remained in first place in the South Puget sound League Central Division, but it wasn't easy. The Raiders beat Auburn Riverside Tuesday, 3-2, to move to 5-0 in the Central Division.

Jefferson won both of the singles matches and Mackenzie Qualls and Caroline Min took the No. 1 doubles match. Qualls and Min beat Jessica Hall and Tralayna Haslett, 6-2, 6-1. Averi Kitsch easily won at No. 1 singles for TJ, 6-1, 6-3, and Breanna Ziccarelli also didn't have any trouble at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

In other tennis action:

• The Decatur Gators remain one match back of TJ in the SPSL Central standings with a 4-1 win over Curtis Tuesday. The Gators (4-1) got shutout wins from Sara Lin at No. 1 singles and the doubles' team of Meghan Cassens and Chanel Carlson.

Decatur's other wins came from Salena Schugarts at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5, and Jen Kanesta and Christina Sessoms at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.

• The Federal Way Eagles squeaked by Beamer Tuesday, 3-2, thanks to a huge win by Dalynn Wingard and Vanessa Pham at No. 2 doubles. Wingard and Pham used three sets to beat Kelly Erickson and Sara Miller, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The Eagles' other wins came from Haley Ward at No. 1 singles over Sadina Anotine, 7-5, 6-1, and Andrea Ferguson at No. 2 over Ruth Yi, 6-2, 6-3.

Beamer's victories came from Jessika Sutcliff and Jenny Hoefel at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-2, and Taylor Lunka and Julia Guo at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-1.
