Fraychineaud wins diving title at WCDistrict championships

Todd Beamer High School divers Tommy Fraychineaud and Ludomir Wanot proved to be the best the West Central District has to offer.

Fraychineaud blew away the field to capture the district crown Thursday at Foss High School over second-place Wanot. Fraychineaud tallied 392.30 points, followed by Wanot’s 359.25. The two divers will now have to wait until the Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Meet, which will take place Feb. 20-21 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The Gig Harbor Tides easily won the West Central District team title with 284 points. The swimming portion of the meet was held Friday and Saturday at Rogers High School. South Kitsap (171 points) finished second, followed by Stadium (122) and Wilson (119). Central Kitsap and Curtis tied for fifth with 93 points and Beamer ended up in seventh with 85 points.

The Titans also got a second-place finish from Shane Clare in the 200-yard individual medley during Saturday’s final. Clare finished behind South Kitsap’s Brandon Dravis in a time of 1:59.01. Dravis out-touched Clare in 1:58.86.

Kentlake senior Kayla Shira took three titles, and Puyallup (171.175) edged Emerald Ridge (168.6) and Kentlake (167.025) for the team title at Saturday’s South Puget Sound League Meet at Kentwood High School. Puyallup was state runner-up last year.

Beamer finished up in fourth place as a team and will advance to next weekend’s West Central District Meet at Auburn Mountainview. The top-six teams from the SPSL meet advanced. Auburn Riverside and Tahoma also advanced to districts, which will determine state competitors.

Shira, who won the all-around with a 37.225, also placed first on uneven bars (9.25) and floor exercise (9.525). Puyallup sophomore Chelsey Haskey was second in the all-around (36.5), and won balance beam (9.55).
