Montana ends Steel Lake’s run at West Regional
Steel Lake Little League’s run into the 2008 Western Regional Tournament ended abruptly Thursday with a 9-5 loss to Mt. Jumbo East/West. The loss to the Montana state champions was the second of the Senior League tournament in Upland, Calif.
The 14- and 15-year-olds from Steel Lake lost their opening game to Summerlin (Nevada) North Little League last Tuesday, 10-0, to drop into the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
Steel Lake qualified for regionals by winning the Washington State Senior Little League championship and the District 10 title. Steel Lake beat Pacwest Little League in the state title game at Mosier Park in Burien.
The regional tournament also included state champions from Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona and Oregon, as well as the best teams from Southern and Northern California.
The Western Regional winner advances to the 2008 Senior Little League World Series, which will be held Aug. 10-16 in Bangor, Maine. The World Series will include five regional champions from the United States, as well as teams from Canada, Europe, Latin America and the Asian-Pacific.
