PREP SPORTS WRAP: TJ softball splits a pair of SPSL North contests


Jefferson — The defending SPSL North-Division champion Tahoma Bears downed Jefferson Tuesday, 9-2. The Raiders (3-3 SPSL North, 4-4 overall) took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Bears battled back to score six in the bottom of the first. The game was called after five innings because of rain.

Sam Simundson finished with a run and a stolen base. Jefferson ended up with only three hits, while Tahoma pounded out 11 hits on the day.

The loss came a day after the Raiders beat Kentlake, 10-0, in six innings. Rocky Hale allowed only four hits on the mound and the TJ offense had 10 hits. Bailey Rundle finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Beamer — The Titans blew away Curtis Monday, 11-1, to remain unbeaten in the SPSL South. Beamer (5-0 SPSL South, 6-2 overall) got another impressive outing from Madison Rogers, who pitched five scoreless innings, striking out 10. Megan Jewett-Chan finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Kelsey McDonnell went 2 for 4.


Federal Way — The Eagles (3-2 SPSL South, 4-2 overall) beat Bethel Wednesday, 15-5, after scoring nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. Christian Jones finished with a home run and five RBIs during the game. Rylan Cratsenberg was 3 for 3 with three doubles and an RBI and J.C. Cater was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a double.

Blake Koler picked up the win on the mound, striking out five in three innings.

Decatur — The Gators moved to 3-2 in the SPSL 3A with a pair of 6-3 wins over Peninsula Monday and Wednesday.

Decatur (6-4 overall) led 6-0 Monday until Peninsula scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chris Carns got the win on the mound for the Gators and Brandon Zimmerman finished 2 for 3 with a double and two runs.

On Wednesday, Decatur scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a three-run home run by Taylor Havilcek. Jacob Kolterman got the win on the mound.

Jefferson — The Raiders scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit. Jefferson (4-3 SPSL North, 6-3 overall) won the SPSL North contest Monday, 14-4.

Michael Ziccarelli finished 4 for 5 with four RBIs, two runs and two doubles for the Raiders. Caleb Wallen picked up the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up five hits.


Beamer — The Titans played the Curtis Vikings to a scoreless tie Monday. Beamer (3-2-2) got the shutout in net from Omar Duenas.

Federal Way — The Eagles dropped their first two games of the season to Rogers and Puyallup. Rogers downed Federal Way, 2-0, Monday and Puyallup won 3-1 Wednesday. The losses dropped Federal Way to 5-2-1 on the season. Garrett Brewer scored the Eagles' lone goal of the week against Puyallup.

Jefferson — The defending state champions played Auburn Riverside to a 0-0 tie Monday and blew out Auburn Wednesday, 4-0.

Hunter Bowman earned the shutout in net in both matches for TJ, who moved to 6-1-1 in the SPSL North.

Against Auburn, Samuel Vargas tallied a hat trick with goals in the 18th, 48th and 65th minutes. Senior Brandon Madsen scored the other goal for TJ.
