The Decatur High School drill team brought their excellence and athletic prowess to the Yakima Sundome to compete in the WIAA State Dance and Drill Competition the weekend of March 29-30.

The team’s “Eye of the Tiger” military routine amazed the judges and wowed the audience as they dominated and won the 3A state championship over other strong contenders, such as Hazen High School.

The talents of the drill team continued as they performed an electrifying Spiderman routine, earning them a second place state trophy. The girl’s talents and athleticism is present in their routines, which include high lifts, choreographed, simultaneous headstands and various flips and gymnastic combinations.

Coach of the Decatur team Lindsay Starr has developed a program of excellence over the last 12 years and is amazed at the talent pool and the extreme focus her dance members possess.

With only two members graduating and future additions, the team will again be a strong contender for district and state titles, she said. The Decatur drill team has won five state championships since 2010 and four USA National Championships since 2012.
