PREP BASKETBALL: Fifth-ranked Beamer takes control of SPSL South with OT win over Curtis

The fifth-ranked Todd Beamer Titans boys basketball team took total control of the South Puget Sound League South Division Friday night with an overtime win over the defending Class 4A state-champion Curtis Vikings.

The Titans (13-2 overall, 12-0 SPSL South) picked up the 87-82 win on their home court to take a two-game lead on Curtis in the chase for the SPSL South championship. The win completed a season-sweep of the Vikings (10-2 SPSL South).

It seemed like the Titans were headed to an easy victory. Beamer rolled out to a 59-45 lead during the third quarter, but they couldn't put the ball in the basket during the fourth quarter and turned the ball over numerous times. Curtis outscored the Titans, 28-14, during the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter to force overtime.

But Beamer righted the ship during the four-minute overtime session. The Titans were led by 23 points by Bogdon Bliznyuk, who finished 5-for-6 from the free-throw line during overtime.

Fellow senior Trey Burch-Manning finished with 21 points, scoring 19 in the first half before fouling out in the third quarter. Charles Frazier ended up with 14 points and Quadir Williams chipped in 13.

Ashanti Potts-Woods finished with a game-high 33 points for Curtis.

Federal Way — The Eagles (13-3 overall, 11-3 SPSL South) got 27 points from senior guard Adrian Davis and beat the Bethel Braves Friday, 75-63. Davis helped Federal Way pull away from the Braves in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles led just 51-50 entering the last eight minutes, but outscored Bethel, 24-13, during the fourth quarter. Viont'e Daniels finished with 19 and Malik Montoya chipped in 11 for the Eagles.

Jefferson — The Raiders (5-10 overall, 4-7 SPSL North) used an impressive fourth-quarter comeback to beat Kent-Meridian Friday night, 59-55. Jefferson trailed 45-41 entering the final eight minutes.

Darius Anderson led the way for the Raiders with 17 points and Xavier Scott finished with nine.

Decatur — The Gators fell to the Lakes Lancers Friday night in SPSL 3A action, 74-54. The Lancers pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Decatur, 24-11.

The Gators (4-12 overall, 3-3 SPSL 3A) were led by 20 points from Palofino Jatta, who was the only Decatur player in double figures.
